Meet the Modeller: Marius Andersen

Terravera Foundation is proud to introduce our sustainability data modeller, Marius Andersen. Since joining the foundation in 2025, Marius has been a vital analytical contributor to numerous projects. While pursuing his studies at the Norwegian School of Economics (NHH), he is applying his strong skills and in data modeling, recognizing its crucial role in the green transition. This transition, he notes, is gaining momentum both within the business sector and as a key focus at NHH.

Marius Oanaes Andersen aims to help more students at NHH apply their skills to real-world sustainability challenges through modelling, while strengthening collaboration between academia and industry.

Turning Sustainability into Measurable Impact

Through his engagement with Terravera, Marius has gained extensive knowledge in sustainability modelling through hands-on work with several technology companies. He conducted part of an LCA analysis for C-loop, mapping the environmental footprint of their rope production. Additionally, he worked with EcoSubsea and Grimaldi on a project examining the use of underwater robots to clean ship hulls, modelling how this innovation improves fuel efficiency.

Currently, Marius is working with Renas to analyse the environmental impact of end-of-life scenarios for computer monitors. This includes examining material recovery, recycling, and reuse processes. The work assesses how Renas's operations contribute to reducing environmental impact, and how they could be further adjusted to achieve even greater effect.

Bringing Economics into Sustainability Modelling

Marius truly embraces the strong academic foundation Terravera is built upon and advocates for greater inclusion of economic perspectives in future analytical work. His vision includes establishing an independent student group at NHH, composed of data modelers and project leads, to adapt and enhance the Terravera framework. He believes the innovative spirit and collaborative environment at NHH provide the perfect foundation for this initiative to thrive.

A Passion for Solving Complex Problems

Marius has always been drawn to finding answers, using data and analytical methods as his primary tools. Alongside Terravera, he works at Machina AS in Bergen. Here he contributes to the internal system development, while also doing quality assurance testing. His dedication to mathematics is reflected in his participation in advanced courses from several institutions such as York College, NTNU, and UIB.
