Terravera partners with Are Gråthen
Terravera strengthens its expertise in cargo flows and transport through a collaboration with shipping and logistics leader Are Gråthen. He brings deep knowledge of international cargo flows and maritime value chains, and will contribute industry insight to the transition toward more sustainable logistics and transport solutions.

Regulations are driving change
Gråthen points out that European regulations are increasingly changing how shipping and logistics operate. He highlights EU climate regulations for the maritime sector — including the EU Emissions Trading System (EU ETS) and FuelEU Maritime — as key drivers of change.
He describes the introduction of CO₂ costs on emissions from large vessels as a measure that is already influencing the market.
These regulations have shifted how cargo owners approach emissions and increased the willingness to reduce emissions across supply chains. At the same time, they are creating growing demand for credible and comparable climate documentation.
Gråthen believes Terravera’s work is becoming increasingly relevant. As demand for climate documentation grows alongside stricter regulations, the need for independent, data-driven analysis continues to increase.
Rising expectations for transparency
Gråthen emphasises that freight costs must increasingly be viewed in the context of environmental and societal costs.
Younger generations are more aware of climate impact and expect greater transparency. He believes a company’s value and reputation will increasingly depend on its ability to document environmental impact.
Over time, he expects consumers to consider not only a product’s price, but also its environmental impact data.
Are’s role in Terravera
Through this collaboration, Are Gråthen will help strengthen Terravera’s work in:
mapping and analysing cargo flows
documenting emissions in transport operations
developing data-driven decision tools
Through sustainability modelling, Terravera helps organisations document emissions and make better decisions — benefiting both cargo owners and consumers.
